EN : After two albums of original compositions, an album of Thelonious Monk’s repertoire, and numerous appearances on various projects across Europe, saxophonist Vincent Thekal has assembled a top-notch European band for his fourth album as a leader: “Straight Ahead.” He is joined by trumpeter Rémy Labbé and pianist Casimir Liberski, both graduates of the prestigious Berklee College of Music and returned to Europe after several years in New York. The rhythm section comprises bassist Sal La Rocca and drummer Armando Luongo. This quintet, composed by some of the finest Belgian jazz artists, explores the lesser-known repertoire of hard bop, featuring the leading composers of this period.

FR : Après deux albums de compositions personnelles, un album autour du répertoire du Thelonious Monk et de nombreuses participations à différents projets à travers l’Europe, le saxophoniste Vincent Thekal s’entoure d’une équipe européenne de haut vol pour ce quatrième album en leader : «Straight Ahead», aux côtés du trompettiste Rémy Labbé et du pianiste Casimir Liberski, tous deux diplômés de la prestigieuse école de Berklee et revenus en Europe après plusieurs années passées à New York. Enfin, la section rythmique se compose du contrebassiste Sal La Rocca et du batteur Armando Luongo. Ce quintet composé de certains des meilleurs musiciens de jazz belge explore le répertoire moins connu du hard bop, autour des compositeurs phares de cette période.

Hij wordt vergezeld door trompettist Rémy Labbé en pianist Casimir Liberski, beiden afgestudeerd aan het prestigieuze Berklee College of Music en teruggekeerd naar Europa na een aantal jaren in New York. De ritmesectie bestaat uit bassist Sal La Rocca en drummer Armando Luongo. Dit kwintet, gecomponeerd door enkele van de beste Belgische jazzartiesten, verkent het minder bekende repertoire van hardbop, met werk van de belangrijkste componisten uit deze periode.
