About Igor Gehenot

Igor Gehenot (Liège 27.11.1989) started classical piano studies from an early age. At 13 he enters the jazz section of the royal academy of Liège and at 19 the conservatory of Maastricht. When 17 he met drummer Antoine Pierre with whom he started the Metropolitan Quartet and perfom many concerts in Belgium and abroad. The Quartet wins the “Young talent” Prize at the Comblain-La-Tour Festival. He enters the Royal Conservatory of Brussels in 2009 for two years, where he studies among others with Eric Legnini, and starts his own trio with Sam Gerstmans on double bass and drummer Antoine Pierre. One of the main jazzclubs in Brussels The “Sounds”, realizing his great talent, proposes a residence fot two years. This opportunity has been essential in developing the cohesion of his trio and has also gave the opportunity to play with many guests like Félix Zurstrassen, Lionel Beuvens, Martin Méréau, Pat Cleaver, Jean-Paul Estiévenart, Lorenzo Di Maio, Sal La rocca, Jens Bouttery, Daniele Cappucci, Vincent Thékal…

A Propos d’Igor Gehenot

Igor Gehenot est né à Liège en 1989. Il commence le piano à 6 ans, étudie d’abord le classique puis le jazz. A 13 ans, il entre a l’académie Marcel Désiron section jazz ou il étudie pendant 4 ans et intègre le Conservatoire de Maastricht à 19 ans. À 17 ans, il rencontre le batteur Antoine Pierre et forme le Metropolitan Quartet, avec qui il donne de nombreux concerts en Belgique et l’étranger (Pays-Bas, Algérie…) et gagne le prix “Jeune Talent” du Festival Comblain-La-Tour. Il intègre le Conservatoire de Bruxelles en 2009, ou il a cours notamment avec Eric Legnini. C’est alors qu’il forme son premier trio avec Sam Gerstmans & Antoine Pierre, et joue au Festival Dinant Jazz Nights, festival avec lequel il entretient un rapport particulier depuis ses débuts. A partir de 2011, il poursuit sa voie de manière autodidacte. Le “Sounds” puis “l’archiduc”, mythiques clubs de jazz Bruxellois, lui octroient une résidence pour une durée de deux ans, ce qui lui permettra d’inviter de nombreux musiciens à se joindre à lui tels Félix Zurstrassen, Lionel Beuvens, Martin Méreau, Pat Cleaver, Jean-Paul Estiévenart, Lorenzo di Maio, Sal La Rocca, Jens Bouttery, Daniele Capucci, Vincent Thékal, Thomas Mayade etc..) Il est lauréat du prix “Sabam Jeunesses Musicales Jazz awards”….
