Sal La Rocca (double bass), Phil Abraham (trombone), Igor Gehenot (piano), Steven Delannoye (saxophone) and Umberto Odone (drums).

 EN : Sal La Rocca, double bassist of Sicilian origin, returns with a profoundly different new project, he continues to defend more than ever hard bop or post bop jazz, biting and groovy.

For his new quintet, Sal has surrounded himself with the incomparable Igor Gehenot whose percussive sound tinged with Caribbean sounds gives warm and welcoming music. Phil Abraham introduces himself into the band with beautiful textures highlighting the compositions of Sal La Rocca. The double bassist is also supported by Steven Delannoye on sax and Umberto Odone on drums whose temperament and style quickly seduce.

With great cohesion and full of energy, SLR5 highlights each of the soloists. It’s decidedly optimistic and catchy. Music that immediately excites you, that makes you think of the sea, of the beach, that makes you want to dance, to hug, to laugh…. This is the strength of a united group.

FR : Sal La Rocca, contrebassiste d’origine sicilienne revient avec un nouveau projet profondément différent, il continue à défendre plus que jamais un jazz hard bop ou post bop, mordant et groovy.

Pour son nouveau quintet, Sal s’est entouré de l’inégalable Igor Gehenot dont le son percussif teinté de sonorités caribéennes donne une musique chaude et avenante. Phil Abraham s’introduit dans le band avec de belles textures mettant en relief les compositions de Sal La Rocca. Le contrebassiste est également épaulé par Steven Delannoye au sax et Umberto Odone à la batterie dont le tempérament et le style séduisent rapidement.

Avec une belle cohésion et tout en énergie, SLR5 met en valeur chacun des solistes. C’est résolument optimiste et entraînant. Une musique qui emballe tout de suite, qui fait penser à la mer, à la plage, donne envie de danser, de s’enlacer, de rire…. Voilà la force d’un groupe soudé.
