EN : After many adventures, in piano or electro-jazz duos, sometimes it feels good to come back to classics, especially in the Bill Evans – Chick Corea – Keith Jarrett line. Liège-based pianist Igor Gehenot goes back to the roots with this new augmented trio project, while bringing brand new compositions.
Born out of complicité, collective maturity is clearly this project’s strength, the kind of maturity that opens up the door to shared pleasure, for musicians, as much as for audiences drinking it all up. Trust Igor Gehenot for anything that is post-bob-related lyricism and swing: his touch is both delicate and firm. Iron hand clad in a velvet glove, the pianist commits body and soul with passion and concentration.
Relying on the careful and stimulating rhythm of the trio, the wind instruments can put all their tested technique to the service of skin-deep emotions. It’s irresistible. D.S.
FR : Après bien des aventures, en duo de pianos ou en électro-jazz, il est parfois bon de revoir ses classiques, notamment la filière Bill Evans – Chick Corea – Keith Jarrett. Le pianiste liégeois Igor Gehenot revient aux sources dans son nouveau projet en trio augmenté, tout en proposant des compositions flambant neuves.
Née d’une grande complicité, la maturité collective est évidemment la clé du projet, cette maturité qui ouvre les portes d’un plaisir partagé tant entre musiciens qu’avec un public qui s’en délecte. Faisons confiance à Igor Gehenot pour ce qui est du lyrisme et du swing propres au post-bop : bien à lui, son toucher est fait autant de délicatesse que de fermeté. Main de fer dans un gant de velours, le pianiste s’investit corps et âme avec passion et concentration.
Appuyés par la rythmique attentive et stimulante du trio, les vents peuvent dès lors mettre toute leur technique éprouvée au service d’émotions à fleur de peau. Que ça en devient irrésistible. D.S.
