EN : A harp weekend with the name ‘Flanders Celtic Harp Meeting’ with an ‘African’ harp? It is proof that we are looking over the walls. As the opening concert of this weekend we present you an unknown talent from Senegal, accompanied by two virtuosos on bass and percussion.
Mamadou Dramé was born in Casamance in the south of Senegal. He is the descendant of a large griot family who has passed on the art of kora from father to son for 6 generations. You could compare a griot with our European troubadours …Mamadou started his education at the age of eight. He later studied in Dakar and played there several years before he left for Europe. He played almost all over Europe and is currently working on his own debut CD that would appear next year.

NL : Een harpweekend met de naam ‘Flanders Celtic Harp Meeting’ inzetten met een ‘Afrikaanse’ harp? Het is een bewijs dat we over de muren kijken. Als openingsconcert van dit weekend presenteren we je een onbekend talent uit Senegal, begeleidt door twee virtuozen op bas en percussie. Mamadou Dramé werd geboren in Casamance in het zuiden van Senegal. Hij is de afstammeling van een grote griot familie die al 6 generaties lang de kunst van kora van vader op zoon doorgeeft. Je zou een griot kunnen vergelijken met onze Europese troubadours…Op achtjarige leeftijd start Mamadou z’n opleiding. Hij studeerde later in Dakar en speelde er verschillende jaren vooraleer hij naar Europa vertrekt. Hij speelde zowat door gans Europa en werkt momenteel aan zijn eigen debuut cd die volgend jaar zou verschijnen.
