Sal La Rocca (bass); Steven Dellanoye (tenor sax); Phil Abraham (trombone); Igor Gehenot (piano); Umberto Odone (drums).
EN : Sal La Rocca, a double bassist of Sicilian origin, returns with a new project, profoundly different from his previous work. He presents himself here as a quintet, with a completely new lineup. On tenor sax, Steven Dellanoye, and on drums, Umberto Odone, two musicians he met in Brussels during a jam session, whose energy and passion quickly won Sal over. On piano, we find the incomparable Igor Gehenot, whose percussive playing, tinged with Caribbean sounds, brings warmth and openness to the music. Phil Abraham, who already appeared on Sal La Rocca’s last album, joins the group and brings beautiful textures that enhance the leader’s compositions. Groovy, bright, and resolutely optimistic compositions.
Music that evokes the sea and the beach, that makes you want to dance, laugh, and share a simple, joyful moment.
About Toots Jazz Club
Le Club
Toots is a cultural and secular space, open to everyone, and firmly opposed to all forms of discrimination.
The Toots Jazz Club was founded on the initiative of pianist Joachim Caffonnette, who wanted to create a true jazz club in the vibrant heart of Brussels — a place where music resonates until the early hours of the morning. Just like in New York and New Orleans… but with a touch of Brussels zwanze! Established as a tribute to the Belgian jazz legend Jean-Baptiste “Toots” Thielemans, the club blends the spirit of Brussels with the festive tradition of the most vibrant music there is. After making a name for itself by reviving a jazz club in the south of the city, the Toots Live association brought its unique atmosphere and high-level programming to Brussels’ Grand-Place in 2025, thanks to the support of ULB, the Centre d’Action Laïque, and the City of Brussels. Concerts and jam sessions fill its centuries-old walls five nights a week, welcoming passersby and chess players alike into a warm, unmistakably Brussels ambiance.
