Bulgarian pianist Sabin Todorov releases a third album as a trio. “Archaeology”, a metaphor for an inner journey, takes us into the poetic universe of the pianist through a resolutely modern jazz where melody is in the spotlight. Sabin Todorov’s trio will soon celebrate its 20th anniversary. Founded in 2002, Todorov’s project was to cross modern jazz with the rhythms and melodies of traditional music from his home country, Bulgaria.
He succeeded in this on the first two albums, Inside Story (2008) and Inside Story 2 (2010), both released by Igloo. After a long period of exploring the trends, structures and interactions of modern jazz, the trio returns with a third album, ten tracks entirely composed and arranged for the trio by the pianist. Archaeology should be understood as a metaphor for an inner journey.
A journey that searches our memory and our subconscious and extracts wonders, such as: the little melody of the title track; the spirituality of an old book that inspired My Name Is Sadness; the magnificent aesthetic of the film “Dreams” (1990) by Japanese director Akira Kurosawa evoked in Kurosawa’s Fox Wedding; Flight Over The Ocean and El Hierro which are inspired by the beauty of nature; or game of Fear and What a Mess, two pieces imbued with fear and the feeling of chaos but also with humor.
The trio format (piano/bass/drums) is the perfect combination for the pianist to sketch his singular and poetic universe.

On the menu every Wednesday (or Friday) in concert (starter and/or main course and/or dessert) we offer our BOULETS A LA CHIMAY, a house specialty (10/12€) as well as SALMON FILLET either Ostend style (beurre blanc of shallots and grey shrimps) or accompanied by small vegetables and a saffron sauce (14€).
We offer you A DAILY SPECIAL (couscous royal, lamb or poultry curry, steak tartare, chef’s lasagna, beef bourguignon, chicken basquaise, veal blanquette, waterzooi, etc.) (10 to 14€) as well as TWO STARTERS (salmon lentils, goat’s cheese puff pastry, mouclade, terrine, feta purse, mushroom toast, salmon and leek tartlet, etc.) (6 to 8€)
