THE TREASURES OF JAZZ

November 29 @ 8:30 p.m.
Sal La Rocca Invit Bart Defoort & Friends
Bart Defoort (t.sax), Ron van Rossum (piano), Sal La Rocca (double bass), Umberto Odone (drums).
The Bruges saxophonist Bart Defoort brings class experienced musicians to a well-filled Jazz attic for a great concert. Bart Defoort has been a permanent member of the Brussels Jazz Orchestra for a long time and rarely makes his own records, but he is even better live and especially in small venues.
They play a series of compelling compositions with tempo accelerations that are rooted in jazz history but sound fresh at the same time. They play some lesser-known classics by Duke Ellington (Blues in blue print) or a swinging ‘House party starting’ by Herbie Nichols from the Blue Note period that is reminiscent of Elmo Hope and Bud Powell. There is also a ballad, such as ‘total eclipse’ by vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson…Of course Bart also plays his own work, such as ‘with you it is’ (fast hard bop with tempo changes and heavy drumming).
TICKET: 15€ Members – No Members  18€
